Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Speakerbox and what do you do?
SpeakerBox is Southwark’s youth-led platform for care-experienced young people. We empower you to share your voice, shape the services you receive, and get involved in creative projects, events, and decision-making.
Who can get involved and how?
SpeakerBox is open to Southwark care-experienced young people aged 5-25. You can join us by reaching out to the team or attending one of our events. You can also ask your social worker, personal advisor, keyworker or foster carer to contact us on your behalf. We’d love to have you onboard!
What things can I get involved in and can I sign up?
You’ll participate in workshops, creative projects, consultations, and social events. From arts and media projects to influencing council decisions, there’s something for everyone. Signing up is simple—just get in touch with us!
How old must I be to get involved?
SpeakerBox is for young people aged 5-25. We have activities tailored to all age groups, including SpeakerBox Juniors (5-12) and projects for older young people.
Do I have to be Care Experienced to get involved?
Yes, SpeakerBox is specifically for care-experienced young people aged 5-25 years. If you’ve been in foster care, a children’s home, or any care setting, this is the space for you.
Must I live in Southwark to get involved?
Ideally, yes. However, we work with most Southwark care-experienced young people placed in and out of the borough. We can get creative in how you can get involved, even from a far. SpeakerBox is designed to support young people who are in or have been in Southwark’s care system. If you’re unsure, contact us, and we’ll help clarify.
What do I need to get involved?
It’s easy! Reach out to the SpeakerBox team via email, phone, WhatsApp or social media. We’ll guide you through the process and get you started on your SpeakerBox journey.
